In terms of total annual flow (cubic 5390 km) Africa is behind Asia and South America. Pools area, length, volume of flow, many rivers are among the largest in the world (Nile, Congo). The distribution of the river network and runoff throughout the continent extremely evenly, that depends mainly on differences in climatic conditions, topography and nature of the rocks of certain areas. Along with areas with dense hydrographic network and large lakes, vast spaces of Africa or almost completely deprived local river network. Many rivers do not reach the ocean and end up in landlocked endorheic basins. Almost all the rivers of the continent are fed by rain. Only in the deserts and semi-deserts diet of their soil, and the high peaks of the Atlas mountains and Eastern Africa the sources of the rivers are fed as melt water of snow and glaciers.
The longest river of Africa – Nile (6671 km) at the same time and the longest river of the Earth. The area of the basin of the Nile – 2870 thousand sq. km. the source of the Nile – the river Rukarara in the system of the Kagera river, originating at an altitude of 2000 m. In the next part – between lakes Victoria and albert (Mobutu-CECE-Seko) the river is called Victoria Nile. After crossing lake albert, the river receives the name of the albert Nile. According to statistics, on Earth there are about 5 million lakes. They are all different in origin, shape, size, composition, water depth, etc. because the lake is a closed basin, they are literally tanks for experimental mixes. They can happen strange chemical reactions, but also to emerge of abnormal create, which you will not find anywhere else.
Some lakes are places of catastrophic events in history, such as falling meteors or volcanoes while others keep the ancient secrets or unique geological formations.
Today we present to our readers the most unique lakes on the planet Earth.

Recently, researchers at brown University decided to conduct an unusual study and calculate how much water could be near the Martian volcano Arsia Mons. According to them, the heat of a volcano under a huge glacier in the relatively recent past contributed to the formation on the red planet, large lakes filled with water. And as you know, where there’s water, there may well be life.
According to the researchers, in the recent past, Arsia Mons, a volcano on Mars may have been the source for the existence of life. Scientists found that the glacier was located at the foot of the volcano. This is indicated by the grooved area in the foreground. According to experts, the eruption occurred on the territory of the ice cover, so in the end, the melting ice may form lakes of liquid water.
It should be noted that Arsia Mons is the tallest volcano on the red planet, and also one of the largest mountains in the Solar system. Its height exceeds the height of mount Everest almost twice. In the recent past the slopes of this giant volcano on Mars covered monolithic ice.
The analysis of the topography of the volcano, scientists have found that 210 million Continue reading
